Intro to IBO Knitting - May 2 & 3

This 2-day intensive course ( 3rd day optional at additional cost ) using Stoll's industrial hand-flat knitting machine is intended to teach the fundamentals of knitting and stitch analysis, with a focus on the following:

  • Understanding the mechanics of an industrial hand flat knitting machine

  • Drawing & reading loop diagrams and analyzing various stitch structures

  • Operating a Stoll IBO machine to knit popular fabrics such as jersey, links links, half cardigan and more!


  • Introduction

  • Basic Structure

  • Basic understanding of knitting method on hand-flat knitting machine

  • Sampler of structures using hand-flat knitting machine


  • Transferred stitches, such as, pointelle & cables.

  • Introduction to fully fashion methods

  • Advanced stitch identification

  • Machine room tour & overview of machine types, flat bed vs. circular, linking and finishing

DAY 3 ( Optional )

  • Jacquard

  • Intarsia, CMS & ADF

  • Plating, ADF plating technology

  • Weave in technique

  • Multi-gauge, Layers

  • Shaping features of knitwear, Cut & Sew, Fully Fashion, knit wear
